Fede Alvarez's Evil Dead Review

If you have never seen Evil Dead then you should really try to locate a copy and spend some time watching it.
Now specifically, there are a few you could watch. If your're into the new age horror remakes then you can watch the new 2013 remake of it. Or if you're into the old classic films then you can check out one of the original three. Evil Dead was originally founded upon a trilogy of insane, sci-fi like films. They are in my opinion a little too far out there, but that is just for my taste.  I typically do not always go for remakes, but this one did a exceptional job. You can check the trailer out here here. This one is my favorite of the Evil Dead options and I'll tell you why...

In the new version they do a lot of things to really bring it home to the originals while also adding their own sinister twist onto the film. Both the new and the old have ridiculous amounts of blood and gore. However, the new version really intensifies it. There are countless scenes that are extremely bloody. Including an entire scene where there is actually raining blood. Yes, an entire set with raining blood.

On top of the excellent scenes, there is a stellar plot. You follow Mia, a girl who is addicted to drugs. Her friends and Brother take her to a family cabin in order to watch over her as she tries to handle the withdraws of stopping her drugs. I love how they set up the scenario so that it isn't easy for them to leave. In a time period where everyone has cell phones, and cars, it is sometimes difficult to make it seems like people are completely cut off from society. But by trying to keep her in the cabin, and actually cut her off from society, and all access to drugs, they set up the perfect situation for a horror movie to take place.

My last favorite aspect of the film is that they put an interesting twist on their villains. It is a demon who can go through different bodies. As the demon takes over the body, the person becomes extreme aggressive and looks like a sort of zombie. I love the makeup that they do because it really makes the difference in how terrifying their characters look.

If you're a horror movie fan, then you'll love this movie, or even the old trilogy if that is what you're into. Check them out!
